The first thing that comes to mind when you think about spring and summer holidays in Sorrento & Amalfi Coast is obviously the sea. When travellers who spend more than five days ask me what there is to do in Sorrento & Amalfi Coast from April to October, I always recommend to spend a day at one of the beach clubs in Sorrento, opening their doors and restaurants on the sea to both locals and travellers.

Does Sorrento have a beach?
Yes, Sorrento has several beaches and since it sits on a clifftop, its’ beaches are not well known but despite it’s rocky coasts and plunging cliffs is worth taking a dip in its waters. Last year, Sorrento sea achieved the Blue Flag award, for its excellent quality of water, high efficiency in wastewater purification and the services provided by the bathing sites, a prestigious quality mark for the coastal area.
The Sorrentine Peninsula has many beach clubs to offer and some are absolutely not to be missed, whether you are with the family, in a group of friends or in pairs, whether you like sand or pebbles, bathing establishments or small bays immersed in nature, the Sorrentine Peninsula is able to offer it.

Beaches in Sorrento, Marina Piccola | Must know
Marina Piccola is the main Sorrento bay and it is the closest to our apartments, suites and villas. It is 2 minutes walking distance from Sorrento Old Town and 6 minutes from Tasso’s square, the heart of Sorrento. On the right hand side of the Marina Piccola there’s the harbour where you catch the ferries to Naples, the Island of Capri and Ischia but on the left hand side you will find the main beach clubs in Sorrento, with sandy black beach and sundeck areas where sun loungers and umbrellas are set up. During summer people can be packed like sardines whichever place you choose, we recommend to book sun bed and umbrella in advance, especially on weekends and in the month of August.
There are four bathing establishments in Marina Piccola, all of different colors and styles, where you can rent sun beds, deck chairs and umbrellas, you can eat sea food or choose from the wide range of sandwiches or pizzas at the restaurant or enjoy a bottle of wine at sunset.

How to get to Marina Piccola
Marina Piccola is easily reachable from Sorrento city centre:
- You can reach Marina Piccola walking down the steps from Piazza Tasso (next to the flags) or those from the Villa Comunale.
- You can get to Marina Piccola taking a lift from the Villa Comunale, where the views from are simply beautiful.
- In Piazza Tasso you can take the bus, internal line, which takes you down to the harbour always at the cost of €1 per person.
Public Beaches in Marina Piccola
Like much of Italy, free beaches in Sorrento are limited — but if you’re traveling on a budget or short on time, the small public beach at Marina Piccola is your best bet. Situated between Peter’s Beach and Marameo Beach Clubs, this narrow strip of sand is free to access, though it fills up quickly during the summer months.

Peter’s Beach
From the month of April until mid October, in the amazing scenery of the Marina Piccola, Peters beach opens its doors and it offers sunbathing on the piers with beds, umbrellas and towels available to rent, At sunset, when the beach is empty, a jazzy background music mixes with the evening breeze, and you can drink a cocktail by the sea or stop for dinner.

- This historical bathing site bears the name of Giovanna d’Angiò, a queen from Naples in the 14th century, reputed to have often sought solace in these waters.
Beaches in Sorrento, Marina Grande
Marina Grande is a colourful and picturesque fishing village on the edge of the Bay and during the summer, and especially on weekends, the Marina is full of people swimming in the cool water. As in Marina Piccola, also here you will find mostly beach club on lava sand and Bagni Sant’Anna, built on the pier. There is a sandy beach but is really more for the fishing boats to be moored than to sunbathe or swim.
How to get to Marina Grande
There are two easy ways to reach the charming fishing village of Marina Grande from the center of Sorrento:
- By Bus: Hop on the local Line D bus from Piazza Tasso, which takes you directly to Marina Grande in just a few minutes — perfect if you want a quick and easy ride.
- On Foot: For a more scenic route, walk from Piazza Vittoria down Via Marina Grande. It’s a pleasant stroll that offers beautiful views along the way and takes about 10–15 minutes.
Bagni Sant’Anna, Sorrento
Bagni Sant’Anna is a large and well equipped sunbathing establishment with breathtaking views of the bay of Naples. Sun loungers and umbrellas are available on the Solarium, and you can swim in the fresh waters of the bay. The beach club has also a restaurant open at lunch and for dinner.

Best Beaches near Sorrento
Lido Marinella – Meta di Sorrento
In the town of Meta di Sorrento, about 6km from Sorrento, a well-known fishermen’s village and sailors welcoming the Sorrento Peninsula, there is the classic Italian beach of sand or pebbles. It stretches for about 1km and also here you will find more bathing establishments, amongst which quoting one of the best “Lido Marinella”.
Set right on the beach with a gorgeous view of the sunset, it is perfect for families with children, as there is a playground on the beach with entertainers, changing rooms, showers and baths with hot water. There is also a Restaurant with sea food with vegetarian options also, it offers great service and is suitable for all occasions including weddings, birthdays and other ceremonies. Sport and beach volley and also kayaks, breakfast snacks and light lunch.
How to get to Meta di Sorrento
- By Bus: From the center of Sorrento, take Bus Line A towards Meta Beach/Alimuri. The ride takes around 30–40 minutes, depending on traffic. The final stop is conveniently located right next to the beach and popular lidos like Marinella.
- By Train: Take the Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento to Naples and get off at Meta di Sorrento station. From there, it’s a 15-minute walk down to the beach — ideal if you’re traveling light.
- By Car: If you’ve rented a car, it’s a quick 15-minute drive from Sorrento. There is paid parking available near the shore, making it easy to spend a relaxed day at the beach.
